Like many of the individual parts of the project, this one is going to be more labor than cost.
There will be a lot of hours spent removing the Junipers. I have the truck, winch and several
chainsaws. Then there will be several days required to put up the fence.

The main cost on this one is going to be the deer fence. I have found some 7.5 ft plastic deer
fence that costs $185 per 164 ft roll. This grove of Aspens is about 100 yds long and 30 yds
wide. So, it will require 5 rolls of deer fence to surround it. The poles have to be 6 ft apart and
cost $4.00 each.

5 rolls of fence = $925.00
43 poles = $173.00
Then there is gas and oil for chainsaws and truck, sharpening of saws, etc..
Aspen Groves
Another phenomenon that is
being seen in the western
states is the decline of Aspen
groves.

This is one of two Aspen
groves that are growing on
the property. Like everything
else, the Aspen are being
impacted by the Juniper trees.
This grove was completely
blocked in on the northern
and eastern sides by Junipers
until my forester team cleared
them out. As you can see,
there are still several Junipers
growing in the middle of the
grove. The foresters could not
get to these with their heavy
equipment without causing
damage to the grove.

This summer, I will use a
chainsaw, my work truck and
a winch to clear these trees
from the grove. I will then
fence the grove off to keep
both cattle and wildlife out of
the grove. I will then apply
several different techniques to
promote new growth.

Naturally, fire would cause
them to propogate. The fire
would disturb the soil and
remove competing plants.
This would allow the Aspens
to spread.

Instead of fire, I will manually
remove the other vegetation
and disturb the surrounding
soil. I will also fertilize the area
to increase the nurtients in
the soil.
