Slashing/Cutting
One of the most important
jobs that needs to be done is
also the least glamorous or
fun. The foresters call it
slashing. It is their way of
making "clean up" sound
more interesting.

When the big equipment is
used to remove the Juniper
trees, a lot of trees and limbs
remain. The equipment can
not get the limbs that are near
the ground because of the
rocks on the ground. Also, it is
not economical to use the big
equipment on very little trees.
These small trees do not
produce much in the way of
chips for the power plant.

So, the job falls to me and
anybody I can get to help me.
The trees need to be cut so
that they do not get big. And
the green limbs must all be
cut from the stumps. Any limb
that has green on it will start
trying to grow a tree again.
They usually only end up as
big bushes but they will still be
using up the water. These
bushes would be growing with
the help of the root system of
the tree that had been cut
down.
